We have a dedicated team of experienced, qualified staff, who all hold full paediatric first aid certificates and are carefully chosen for their passion for excellence in children’s development.
Our special events are regular and varied including trips to local attractions, parties in the summer, and at Halloween, sports days in the park and of course our nativity at Christmas. Our children’s parents are invited to attend and be involved in all of these and more.
Our nursery is fortunate to be located entirely on one ground floor level, enabling children to ‘free flow’ between rooms and activities, including into our secure garden, which offers a wonderful, safe outdoor area for fun, exercise and fresh air.
A healthy, nutritious menu is prepared by our very own chef, from fresh ingredients including a hot, two-course lunch every day.
Children have good relationships with their key persons and all staff. They involve them in their play, and seek them out for support. This demonstrates that children feel safe and secure – Ofsted Inspection October 2015.
Parents are a valued part of the team at Robin’s Nest, a culture recognised in our recent Ofsted inspection in which we were graded as ‘Outstanding’ for our partnership with parents.
We provide a regular newsletter explaining what’s happening in the nursery and always invite comments on what we are doing or planning. All parents have an opportunity to speak to their child’s key person every day and will receive detailed feedback on the day's activities.
We encourage parents to accompany us on our regular educational visits and to join us whenever they have time. We hold annual parents evenings at which parents have the chance to discuss their child’s progress in depth with both their key person and the managers.
During the year we hold a variety of events that allow our parents to get to know each other and their children’s friends better. Just last year we held a sponsored stick for comic relief, a sports day, teddy bears picnic, a garden party barbeque, nativity play and a Christmas party not to mention our annual Halloween party.
We value our parents’ opinions and so we regularly carry on-line surveys to gauge feedback as to our practice and ways in which we might improve.
All of our children have personalised communication diaries, to share important information about your child’s day, activities and food, plus providing ideas for things to do at home.
Staff have good relationships with parents. They fully acknowledge information parents provide about their children and use this to plan for their learning. Staff share information about children’s achievements and encourage parents to continue learning at home – Ofsted Inspection October 2015.
Robin’s Nest employs a dedicated chef, with experience in catering for children to produce all nursery meals in-house. The chef devises menus on a 3 weekly rolling basis and in line with the Children’s Food Trust’s ‘Eat Better Start Better’ guidelines.
The nursery will ensure:
- All meals and snacks provided are nutritious and varied, avoiding large quantities of fat, sugar, salt, preservatives and colourings.
- Snacks are offered with a free flow system.
- Children’s medical and personal dietary requirements are respected and catered for.
- Menus are planned in advance and the food offered is wholesome and balanced.
- A multi-cultural diet is offered to ensure that children from all backgrounds encounter familiar tastes and that all children have the opportunity also to try unfamiliar foods.
- The dietary rules of religious group and also vegans/vegetarians are known and met in appropriate ways.
If a child has a main meal, the following elements are included:
- Protein for growth
- Carbohydrates for energy
